Bye, Felicia

Life can be hard

And when it is, there is frequently a voice in our heads criticizing

Telling us we’re not good enough

Telling us they’re not good enough

Telling us all the things we should be doing, and

All the ways it should be different

Life can also be easy

And yet, that voice still riles its head

Telling us we really should be so good by now

Telling us they should be so good by now

Telling us all the things we should be doing, and

All the ways it should be different

That voice is there and will always be there

It’s as much a part of you as your arm or your leg or your upper femoral tendon

You can choose to exercise it, to make it stronger and more present, or

You can choose to notice it and immediately set it aside

You can simply say, “No thanks. I won’t be entertaining you today.”

PS: My YTT (yoga teacher training) class has named this voice Chloe. You can name yours Chloe or Felicia or whatever. It helps to put a name on it so you can say, “Bye!”
